Description

[This book is] a happy, funny, sad and hopeful story of the struggle of two families brought together by an angry 15-year-old girl and her mentally retarded stepbrother. Sara is 15 and she's angry. The anger began [with her parents' divorce]. Sara's resentment grows deeper when she discovers her mother is going to marry Rick. Sara not only resents the marriage, but she rejects the friendship of Hal, Rick's 15-year-old son. Worse than dealing with either her new stepfather or her stepbrother Hal, is having to put up with Sonny, Rick's mentally retarded son who controls his own life and the lives of those around him by striking out and having fits. Much of Sara's anger and misery finds a target - Sonny... As Sara continues her war against Sonny, she finally begins to see that he understands more about her pain than anyone else in the family. In the end, the pain and suffering of the young girl and the misunderstood child builds a tender bond between them that finally brings the two families together. -Back cover.
